The 1960’s represented a decade of remarkable change for anyone alive at the time but for a fortunate few the opportunity to come of age together in a college environment, in a downtown campus, was amazing. Rochester Institute of Technology was winding down it’s urban campus in the 3rd Ward downtown. The neighborhood contained buildings of real architectural integrity but the structures had deteriorated creating affordable housing for students willing to do necessary improvements. Today the same buildings where students swung from fire escapes and threw parties on rooftops with charcoal burgers on the grill, are a part of the Corn Hill District, the city’s oldest neighborhood, all now carefully restored.
The Past Time continued on Main Street through the 70’s, 80’s and for a part of the 90’s but when the campus moved by the end of the 60’s it had lost its most ardent support.
Old RIT was created by Third Act Films, who produce video biography and commissioned documentary productions.
